Using the secure bike shelters is simple: download the Kaluu app, add a payment card, and load at least €5 of credit to activate. The service is free to use; the credit is returned to your card if you later delete the app. Instructions for use are also posted on the shelters.

The investment is fully financed by the European ELABORATOR project, which promotes the development of sustainable mobility. The aim is to encourage as many secondary-school students as possible to cycle to school while providing them with a safe and easy parking option.

In spring 2025, the first secure bike shelter was installed in the car park by Velenje Beach. It consists of seven bike boxes that also allow charging of e-bikes and e-scooters. The shelter was financed from the Green Leaf award, which the City Municipality of Velenje received for achievements in sustainable development.
